All students wishing to remain in University housing during breaks must follow the above outlined processes and deadlines for application. Thanksgiving and Easter break the residence halls will do a soft close, and students wanting or needing to stay simply must complete the break housing request informing the University of their intent to remain on campus. For Winter break and Spring Break, students must apply AND BE APPROVED to remain on campus.
All requests are reviewed for eligibility. Students who are eligible for break housing must have no record of serious conduct violations (alcohol or substance abuse, residence hall or University probation, vandalism, security or safety violations, etc.) within the past 2 semesters. Such violations will result in the immediate denial of your application, regardless of reason for applying. Students applying for WINTER or SPRING break housing must meet one of the following qualifications:
- Must be an approved participant in a University-sponsored activity such as athletics, student activities, etc. If you are an athlete you must apply for break housing (coaches will submit verification to the Office of Residential and Commuter Life). If the student is on campus at the request of a department, the fee will be paid by the student or by the department. Students are encouraged to clarify the expectations for the break housing fee payment prior to making a commitment to return to campus early.
- Must have a work study job at the University and/or a job off campus and have permanent residency more than 30 miles from Capital University. Verification of employment will be required. Acceptable documented proof is a letter from your employer on company letterhead including a contact name, phone number, and the dates that the student is required to work. If this is not provided the student will not be permitted to stay in break housing. Verification must be received by the break housing application deadline in order for your application to be processed.
- Must reside out of state or outside the United States.
- Students experiencing housing insecurity or homeless.
Please note: International students and students living in the Neighborhood are not charged a per night fee for Break Housing, if they submit a request form prior to the deadline. Students in these groups who submit late request forms, or do not submit a request form will be charged a one-time late fee at the current nightly rate.
Break Housing Fees
The cost to stay in the University housing during Winter and Spring break periods is $15 per day (there is no charge for Thanksgiving or Easter Break). This fee will appear as early/break housing fee on your e-bill.
